Acting Sergt Geo. Smith F25
Regd. No. 162 Reports that on
the 25th inst. Mr James Boyle
reported to him that Constable
Roots had been killed in the
long tunnel Claim. The Actg
Sergt immediately proceeded to
the Claim, and there saw
the body of Const. Roots.
It appears the deceased went
into the tunnels to have a
look at the workings, and
was twice requested not to
go into the face, but after
the Manager had gone out
to get timber for the Claim
