in burning there_ A black called "Shepherd Johnny shot one and other
blacks Killed some with their "Waddies"_ a blackfellow asked if he might
burn [the] [struck out & initialled H.C.] the body of the black fellow _ he said he was a relation _ I told he could
do as he liked _ I do not know whether the blacks are in the habit of burning or
burying their dead _ the black who asked to burn the body was doing some work for
me on the Station and he wanted y permissionto allow him to go _ and I permitted
him _ I have only seen one [dead] [inserted & initialled H.C.] body nd I do t think I saw it re than once ____
Lieut Wheer accompanied by his troopers ca to [the head] [struck out & initialled H.C.] house about midday
of the Twenty fourth of December _ It was before I left the Station that day _ Whwn I first
seen him he was close to the fence elosing the [stables] [struck out & initialled H.C.] _ he asked if they could have
rations _ which he had as usual when he came that way and paid for the - he
remained at the station at my house all that night and I believe left before I rose
the next morning _ he made no remarks about any blackfellows having been Shot _ I thought
I told him that there was a blackfellow dead _ I told hithere had been a ood deal [ing] [struck out & initialled H.C.] of
fighting an Corroboreeing among the blacksthe last few weeks _ I dont remember that
he made any reply _ I told him that I was glad he came up, there were so many [strange] [inserted & initialled H.C.] blacks
about and hoped he wuld dispese them _ I heard firing in the direction of the
Scrub that day before Lieut Wheeler came up _ I cannot say how many Shots _ two or three_
there might have been more or there may be have fewer shots fired _ I did not think anything
of them _ being holiday time I thought it might be some one Shooting game I am
not certain the body I saw was shot - it smelled a good dea - it looked as if
it had been hit about the face with a heavy metalled waddie _ I think that either
Lieut Wheeler or one of his troopers was in the lane which leads to the creek when I saw
him first _ that is the direct way to the scrub rom my house _ but the scrub can be
exteed frothe road leading to the Peak Mountains, and [also] [inserted & initialled H.C.] there is a ship panel
on the track leading to Dugout Lane also _ Some Whites assisted in Shooting them
blacks 'day that I have referred to. I think the black who asked me [to burn the] [struck out & initialled H.C.] to
allow him to burn the body goes by the name of "Peter" _ [the Lie] [struck out & initialled H.C.] I had casually mentioned
to several callersthat the strange blackswere congregated on the river in large numbers
and were a great nuisance _ robbing [the] [struck out & initialled H.C.] any Shepherd huts and disturbing and Spearing
the cattle. and they said I had better send for the native Police to disperse them_
Lieut Wheeler the day he came told me he had heard at Coaelrin that I wanted to see
him about dispersing them _ [he About] [struck out I have not seen so many strange blacks there
since he [Const] [struck out & initialled H.C.] was here _ In general when the native police make their appearance
the [Strange] [struck out & initialled H.C.] blacks decamp _ About eighteen months ago a young girl was vanished
on one of the Stations but she begged I would not make it known _ the blacks had
noticed her out of her fathers hut saying sshe was wanted at a certain Station _ and
then when on her way there, accomplished their purpose - I think I mentioned
the circumstance of the blackfellowsbeing dead to different persons _ Lieut Wheeler
must have come by the scrub where the blackfellow was lying dead in coming to my
