MACKAY. (From the Mercury.)

THE BLACKS.—We are in receipt of intelligence of another raid made by the blacks. A few days ago they paid a visit to Mr. A.F. Lloyd's run, Bluemount, and killed three head of cattle within two miles of the head-station. We have not heard whether any of the Native Police went in pursuit of these black denizens of the bush and doled out to them condign and merited punishment; but the force in charge of Mr. Sub-Inspector Price is so indequate to the requirements of the district, that it is almost impossible for that officer to pnnish [sic] every aggression made by these prowling savages.

BILLIRADS—The first billiard table opened in Mackay is an event not altogether unworthy of notice, and will be hailed by not a few of our residents with satisfaction, more especially those who derive pleasure in a game of billiards. To Mrs. Cook of the Royal Hotel every credit may be justly accorded, and no doubt the table will be largely patronised by the public. It is one of Thurston's best, and is in excellent order. The room affords every facility to the players with ample accommodation for the on-lookers.
