My dear mother

We have had quite a cold spell, so cold indeed that there was a good deal of ice on some of the ponds in some places 1/2 an inch thick and that I put in my plates. I do not know what I got in Latin yet and next 6th Day we have an examination in Greek. I took a walk this afternoon and saw a duck, coot or something of the kind on a pond but in a bad place to get at. Velocipede has arrived. Plese tell Het I will answer her letter soon. Feel very well

My dear mother

West Meford to day. Last Second Day we had an examination in Roman History and I think I passed. Last evening Thayer was down here and we had quite a pleasant time over a couple of games of chess one of which each of us beat. Pleas tell father that the money arrived safely and that I am very much obliged to him for it. Very well.
