of his greatest grievances is,
that the R.R. people have
cut down his "memorial tree"
on which both his father, and
grandfather, had carved their
names! It was rather hard on
the poor fellow, and I pitied
him sincerely. He told me that
one of his greatest pleasures duing
the summer had been to watch
the progress of the work on the
new road, from his own piazza.
I am asked after you all, and sent
his love to you. I was at home
by about twelve o'clock, rather
tired, but not more than a nap
and a dinner set all right again,
and now am feeling better than
I have since Saturday. I found
father quite well, and also seeming
to be going as well as far as the
