Dear Father,
Rec'd your letter Wednesday and shall hold
you to your promise of writing to me a good long letter and that
to ere many days have passed. Chum and I bot a diary for John
S. Eaton. If that is the part you referred to in your letter as what
you could not understand. Could you read the bill of expenses?
Our board bill will be sent in before long. It will be considerably
more than it was last quarter, the term being longer and the board
some what higher. I have $7.00 left. I am glad you found time
to go to Albion. I hope that it has done you good. I wish I
had come here last year and entered Middle Year or else entered
Middle Year this time. I would then have obtained the drill in
Grammar that I lack and started higher than I do at present.
Besides I would get more credit among the boys for
what I did. Last term for instance I stood higher than the
person picked over for valedictorian and salutations but
I did not get credit for it [among.] the boy. I know how
I stood because Uncle marked us and I stood second in
the class. So I missed it [??] not being here last [illegible].
But I will do the best I can. I wish I could go out
riding with you a few times this winter but if wishes
were horses I would have had many a ride [illegible]
to your affectionate son. "Reliable"
[left sideways margin]
Dont fail to and or do something about that [illegible] matter in your neck
if you havent already
attended
to it.
