Dear "Dad"
Your short but welcome epistle
was read by me Friday. I received the photographs of
"Honest Old Abe" all right i.e. the fifteen dollars. If
I remember aright I acknowledged the receipt of the same in
my last but you may not have understood my
language. I am happy to inform you I am not a
"Flunk" though of course I have committed some
egregious errors as all "new uns" do. Indeed they
tell me that the newcomers always flunk three
weeks steady after they come here. If that is the case
I have got along very well considering. I get the
semi-weekly times, for how long a time have you
subscribed? The Evangelist and Palmyra Courier
come regularly and are very welcome. I shall not stay
in my pleasant quarters after this term. My chum is not what he
should be is all I can tell you now. However I will give
my reasons in full before long. They will be entirely
satisfactory when published but I wish to ascertain
some facts before doing so. Don't worry however about
me I will get along very well though it is not as
pleasant as it might be. I don't know, but as it is
