Mame and I sit here on this
all enduring bed of ours,
we have two chairs near
us, one with a bundle of
crackers on it, the other
with a kettle labelled out-
side "Pure Leaf Lard", but
belying its name for that
holds our delicious nectar
We stood at the window
and drank Lizzie's health
after Miss Fiske had gone
past from Davis Hall.
Dear little Lizzie, she looks so
sweet sitting up there at her
window. she is just as
lovely in every respect as
she can be. I had a long
letter from Carrie Wilcox
yesterday - full of nonsense and
gossip as it could be - she
is awfully good to write
me such gay letters. Now
I must write to my Father,
so goodbye for a while.

Later. Tonight at supper time
Mrs. Watson was saying how
much like spring the mud
was; and the frost must be
