Dear Henry,
I suppose you would like to know
how I am getting along as reguards my expedition to
China. As was supposed, they reguard the undertaking
as rather hazerdous and bordering on the flightsy,
They say I can do well enough to remain at home,
meaning by that to go into a blasted cotton mill, I suppose,
Charles says he has no doubt but that I could make -
money but he does not consider that the grand end, not
aspire to be different, and do better than common men,
settle down and be contented with my lot. I tell him
that the principle carried out would put an end to all
great enterprises and undertakings, to which he implies
that I am not a master mind, and therefore unfit to
undertake great things. I am not going to give up the
ship as yet, I want to go & will go if I can, you must not
be surprised if you see me down soon, armed, equiped.

I wish you would write to me soon. you may have heard
something in reguard to it since I left and I should
like to hear from you at any rate. I cannot make
