to establish a new station there. Mr. Anderson was at [illegible]

the committee of the Board had reported a want of 49 missionaries
to be sent out next year, but where in the world can they be found?
Anderson can furnish one tenth, but where are the nine tenths? He also
stated that next year they should probably want seventy five on [illegible]
[illegible]. [What?] Mr. Baker will reach [a new?] class, and shall we be ready to
go? We have in our class at Anderson about nine or ten [illegible] in whom
we feel much confidence. though more than a few others say they expect
to go. Dr. Cushman has recently come to that conclusion.

In the junior class there has from the first been a deep feeling upon
the subject, and some ten or twelve have come to a decision, among
whom is Pike from your College Several others think and feel deeply
upon the subject. We can but hope and pray for a much larger number
from that class.

You may have known [illegible] this that [illegible] [Bantelle?] has left
the seminary for a year He went to teach in Dunkirk Chatauqua
Co, N.Y. [illegible] Powers on his return to the sem. took room
with me to my no small satisfaction. I am perhaps as well suited as
with my former chum [Bantelle?]

I will say to you in confidence that last vacation I had the [happiness?]
to be engaged for a week in a sort of moral agency in one of our neighboring
towns, and last saturday I returned from a second trip upon
the same business, and the consequence is that a little spot upon my cheek
was made to feel good till the present day. The prospect now is that I
shall not be obliged to labour for the [illegible] entirely alone.
[Illegible] Mr. [Lane?] you probably [illegible] become [illegible] in place of Father
[illegible] Resigned though Mr. JOhnston is principle. [illeg] Mr. [illegible]
ever retains his standing in the class.

Dr Skinner has come among us, and he is (in the words of a senior)
a [illegible]. I think I never heard two better sermons thatn he has [illegible]
since he came in town. he seems to bring heaven, earth, and Hell
in full view and makes them fearful realities. He takes hold of
his whole business here like a master workman.

Yesterday we had a tremendous fright. About four oclock in
the afternoon the cry of fire was heard. Upon looking the smoke
was pouring from the roof of commons hall in every [illegible[ like a [illegible] [illegible]
