Rev. Dear Sir,

More than two months ago
the Rev Chester Wright of Montpelier Vermont
informed me that you had written to him
on the plan of establishing in N.E. a Semin=
ary for the education of African Mission=
aries. You know Sir that there has always
been among a certain portion at least of
the members of this Seminary a lively in==
terest in everything relative to the intellect=
ual & moral emancipation of Africa;
you may have been informed that
during the past year that feeling had been
so much increased that our students
have done something for the cause & are
ready to do more if they can only be di-
rected to the proper way & means. It is
on this account that I venture to address
you in the hope that any intrusion
will not be regarded as altogether imper-
-tinent. My object is to inquire what has
been done & what is in agitation respect-
ing an African Seminary —& in what
way can we cooperate to promote the
object.

The "Society of Inquiry respecting
Missions having been directed towards.
the history & plans of the Am. Colonization
Society in the month of April last established
a standby Committee on this subject
which now consists of about twenty of
