It is thought possible that these contents of this little Trunk may be read at some future time, perhaps centuries hence, with special interest, it may be with advantage.

The sermon of Dr. Pearson, preached at the funeral of Madam Phillips, I add, which contains, in an appendix three of her letters to me. I also add two gold finger rings, presented to me by dear friends, one as a memorial of Madam Phillips, the other of the Hon. Samuel Phillips, her revered husband. I do not know what more suitable deposit I can make of these hallowed mementos.

With great respect gentlemen, your friend & obt. sert.

Saml. Farrar

This Trunk & the Pocketbook were from the same kind friend as the Papers.

"If any want wisdom, let him ask of me, & it shall be given him. I will be yr deliverer in darkness, I will be a light to you; I will make the path plain before you. I will be eyes to you; I will watch over you, to bring upon you all the good I have promised, & to keep off all the evil you fear, or to turn it into good—you shall have your food in its season, & your Phisick in its season, mercies, afflictions, all suitable, & in their season.

My holiness, shall be a fountain of grace to you. I am The God of hope, The God of love, The God of patience, The anchor & finisher of faith, the God of all Grace, & I will give grace to you. My design is to make you partaker of my Holiness. I will be a constant spring of spiritual life to you. The water that I shall give you, shall be in you as a well of water, springing up into everlasting life. The road of life that I shall greet into you, shall be so fed, & cherished, & maintained by my power, that it shall be immortal. The unction that you shall receive from The Holy One, shall abide in you, & teach you all

Things (necessary for you) and as it hath taught you, you shall abide in him. I will satisfy your souls in strength, & make fat your bones, & you shall be like a water Garden: lo, I will be as the dew unto you, & you shall grow as the Lilly, & cast forth your roots as Lebanon; and your branches shall spread, & your beauty shall be as the Olive, you shall bring forth fruit in old age; you shall be fat, & flourishing.

Mine all-sufficency shall be the lot of your inheritance. My fullness is your treasure, my House is your home. You cannot ask too much, you cannot look for too much from me; I will be instead of all comforts.

Faith not only lifts up a sheild, but is our sheild; the very beleiving in a crucified Jesus, the very beleiving the command, the justification, the Promise, stays and supports the heart, against whatever may befall it; I had fainted unless I had beleived. Christians, whatever your duties, difficulties, dispondencies, straits, temptations,

Afflictions, weaknesses are; believe, & you shall be carried through; believe, & you shall be established; believe in Christ, & you shall dare to follow Christs; believe in Christ, & you shall go through with Christ, & hold out to the end: believe, & you shall neither fear, faint, nor fall. Your faith will both keep you faultless, & raise you harmless & thereby keep you from sinking & fainting in your mind.

Faith will yet feather all your fear. It will put your reward into your hand; it will put the Crown on your head, even while the Cross is on your back. Faith makes things to come present, in the [?ance] of things hoped for; gives being to the good things promised; be fore they are. Hope comes the eye of the object, looks on things, to come as come, faith brings the object to the eye, look on things to come as came; it looks on distance of time as God looks on it, on a thousand years but as one day. It looks on God's saying & doing, on God's promising & performing as all one; it antidates Glory, & gives a kind of present possession of it in hand, "(In) all these things we are more than conquerours."
