CHARLIE KUO FONG TSAI, class of 1924, was born March 2, 1902 in Shanghai. The son of Shou Kee Tsai, a Chinese Education Mission student from Canton in Hartford in 1872, and brother of Kuo Pao Tsai (class of 1910) and Kuo Tsao Tsai (class of 1909), Charlie was from 5 Race Course Road, Tientsin. He attended Phillips Academy September 16, 1919-March 4, 1922; September 22, 1922-December 20, 1922; September 12, 1923-June 13, 1924. He lived in Taylor 13 (Junior year), Abbot 4 (Lower year), Dr. Stearns (first Upper year), Mrs. Gardner and Day 34 (1923-1924). He was in the Classical department during his Junior year then Scientific department during his Lower and both Upper years. A member of the ATX fraternity on campus, Charlie played on the soccer team in 1919 and 1920 and was captain in 1922. In 1924 he left with his course incomplete then attended Eastman Business College in Poughkeepsie, New York (1925).

were his misfortunes - certainly not his fault. To come to this country after the two older brothers, who were so much better prepared, made it doubly hard.

I was very glad to receive your letter. 26th. Glad to know about your great interest in Charlie. The young man just at this time is in need of all the encouragement that can be given him.

I think that he is naturally very very bright more so perhaps than either of his older brothers. The family troubles during the first year of his life

Tientsin at present is the center of attractions for all warlords, so you see it is not very peaceful to live in. Luckily, we are safe from any disturbances, because our house is located in the British concession.
