selves about us. Two days ago we were very much surprised with the alarming death of one of our neighbors, the W'd Robertson half sister of Deacon Hale. She was found dead in her bed; appeared in good health in the evening & indeed early in the morningi she awoke & conversed, but soon after was found lifeless without an apparent struggle. Such instances of mortality strikingly admonish us of our own frailty. Yours affectionately, Abiel Abbot Mr. Ezra Abbot My love to cousin Burge I am much gratified by his letter & would have answered it now; but have been pressed for time, finding it necessary to write a funeral sermon on account of Mrs Robertson who was carried into the meeting house.

Coventry 1809

Dear Brother,

The day we left And'r we reached Wilton just in the edge of the evening. Our friends we found better than we expected; my mother, a solitary widow, but every consolation which a widow can expect. We continued at Wilton till the next thursday except one night I spent at Greenfield. We had a good journey home. We were absent five weeks except two days. We had the pleasure of seeing our surviving parents, all our brothers & sisters, & all their children except the children of brother Abiel. The journey was accomplished in as little time as could be expected considering the distance & the number of friends we visited. The weather was fine & the travelling good & our health preserved. We have occasion of abundant gratitude to a beneficent providence. Our concerns here we found in as good state as we had ocason to expect after so long an absence. As we have not seen you here we conclude you have made your visit at Portland & Brunswick & have returned by this time. You have had fine weather & travelling. We shall be very glad to hear concerning your journey, the state of friends whom you have visited & others & especially all about your own concerns. Dr. Griffin we suppose, has moved his family, the students have taken possession of this new building, what is it called? I know not, I have you to commons. Is a new professor chosen in room of Dr Pearson? In what state are your parish affairs? Is any person chosen in room of Mr. Newman since Mr. Adams who has gone to Dartmouth college? I have inclosed a five dollar bill on Hudson bank or rather Columbia bank at Hudson, which I exchanged & had of a young man, who I believe had been living with you, I forget his name, the bill is thot to be counterfeit & will not pass in New York. I let him have a bill of Hallowell & August bank & told him if this bill should be bad I should sent it back & he promised to take & if he refuses, he will be liable to heavy punishment. He will doubtless take the bill back & pay me. Will you be so kind as to take care of this business & oblige me. I think the bill was exchanged in

Jan'y 27, 1826 Brother Ezra, I wish you would prepare one of your houses for me & family immediately; bring three cords of hard wood & three cords of pine to the door & send your team when convenient for you to Chelsford, for my goods & chattels, giving me a few days notice. N.B. I do not wish to go to the Poor house. Affect'ly yours A Abbot P.S. I do not wish you to get up an advertisement that we are coming to the South Parish Andover. If you cannot let me have the house, I wish to know it immediately.
