Tuesday Oct: 4th Ladies Committee. Members present 5 Wednesday Mrs Goodletty spent an hour in giving 5th instructions to matron and receiving an inmate. Mr Howitt held a temperance meeting inmates all quiet and orderly at morn. & eve. prayer Thursday Matron very short of sewing for the girls. cut 6th up 2 yards print for 2 sun bonnets & calico pillowslips etc for stock - rather than have them idle. Proposed that each girl learn a verse of scripture and repeat the same when assembled for eve prayers. purchased 1/2 dozn combs & 3 small do. and distributed them. they promised to keep their hair tidy and clean. which was impossible before. Melinda is very unwell, not able to leave her room, Emily Reid. Friday 7th Several of the girls worked very hard in Scouring bed rooms, cleaning windows - besides ironing.
