Mrs Thoms Roberts was appointed Matron

Oct 4th Ladies Committee. Members present 5

Wednesday Mrs Goodlettz spent an hour giving
5th instruction to matron and receiving
an inmate. Mrs Howett held a temperance meeting
inmates all quiet and orderly at morn service prayer
Thursday Matron very short of sewing for the girls cut
6th up 2 yards print for 2 sun bonnets & calico pillowslips
for stock - rather than have them idle.
Proposed that each girl learn a verse of
scripture and impart the same when assembled
for evening prayers.
purchasing 1/2 dozen combs & 3 small do[?] and
distributed these. they promised to keep
their hair tidy and clean. which was
impossible before.
Melinda is very unwell, not able to leave her
room

bed rooms, cleaning windows - besides ironing.
