Dioecious; spikes cylindrical, slender; stigmas three; leaves
flat; perigynia ovoid, with a minute point, densely
hairy, dark purple at maturity, about the length of
the pointed minutely ciliate scale. Culms 6 to 8 inches high;
Flowers in June.
