Trenches 1917 Ap. 8 cont. and 11. am today, has been very feeble, a few shrapnel & H.E. however were put on our support lines & Zouave Vallley. At 8.40 last evening, the enemy ent up a golden rocket, from his Suppor Lines, followed by a Red and Green, a few minutes later. In about five minutes a heavy barrage was put on our front and Suppor Line, continuing for about 30 minutes. At the same time he fired a great many flares and also developed machine gun fire. This appeared to be in the direcion s.14.a.2.3; s.15.a.3.0; s.15.c.5.8. His retaliation to our shoot this morning took about five minues to commence, and in addition to firing at our Front and Support Line and the Valley, a few fell in the middle of No Man's Land. At 10.30 pm he sent up two green and some golden rockets. These also called for a bombardment on our Front and Support Lines. About 7 pm last evening five Enemy planes were noticed patrolling at a great height. These did not come oer our line. About

Trenches 1917 Ap. 6 cont medium trench mortars fired on targets in the vicinity of the junction of CLUTCH and CYCLONE Trenches. Both shoots apparently had good results. Vickers machine guns fired as usual during the nght at interals and also early this morning. Our Lewis guns were active at intervals.

Last night two of our planes flew over the enemy's lines showing red and green lights with a white tail light. The enemy used search lights and also apparently fired his machine guns at them. Last evening about 6 o'clock and at intervals during the evening our planes flew over the enemy's lines with very little attention paid to them, some A.A. guns fired but no machine guns, nor were there any enemy planes in sight. Today, however, while our machines patrolled, there was much A.A. firing, some machine gun firing, and one of our planes was brought down, about 10.30 am, in flames by a Hun machine, about s.15.
