38th Canadian Inf Battalion.

Bourgeois BELGIUM. 21 Medical Inspection in morning. Inter-company football match in afternoon, resulting in win for No.1 Company. Weather - clear. RSC

22 Training under Company arrangements. Arrangements being made for forthcoming move, horses , mules , and limbers being shipped away during the past week, an dalso the return to Ordnance of equipment laid down in Mobilization List. Claims Board at work adjusting all claims, and certificates being obtained from all billet owners that billets have not been damaged. Weather - fair. RSC

23 Commanding Officer's Parade at 9.00 hours on Battalion Parade Ground. Steel helmets, having been sanded, and the Battalion colours painted on them, have today been issued to all ranks. Dance in evening in Circle Estaminet. Weather - cloudy and cold. RSC

24 Commanding Officer's Parade at 9.00 hours. Battalion Route March afterwards. Our move has been postponed from 26th April to 29th. Dance in evening at Circle Retsminet. RSC

25 Commanding Officer's Parade at 10.00 hours. Lecutre by the Commanding Officer, Lieut.-Colonel A.D. CAMERON, MC., in afternoon, at Salle Crap to all Officers and N.C.Os. Battalion dance in evening. Weather - cold and cloudy. RSC

26 Battalion Parade at 9.00 hours, formed up in hollow square on Parade Ground, and spoken to by Lieut.-Colonel J. Kirkcaldy, DSC., Commanding 12th Canadian Inf. Brigade, regarding our move. Battalion paid, commencing at 10.00 hours by Field Cashier, 4th Canadian Division. Weather - cold, with frequent rain storms.

27 Battalion Church Services; Church of England Service held in Salle Crap at 11.00 hours. Roman Catholic Service held in Parish Church, Genval, at 11.00 hours. Orders received that we are to move on the 28th inst., in place of the 29th, and preparations being made with two bands. Refreshments, and light beer served to all. Weather - squally, and cold.

38th Canadian Inf. Battalion

Place -- Date -- Hour -- Summary of Events and Information Remarks and references to Appendices

BOURGEOIS Belgium 28 Muster Parade held at 8.30 hours. Battalion formed up on the Grand Place, and moved from BOURGEOIS to HAVRES, for entrainment to LE HAVRE. Battalion marched in full marching order, and followed the old tram-lines. Entrainment completed by 17.10 hours. Train journey commenced at 18.00 hours. All ranks comfortably settled on the train, with plenty of room. Y.M.C.A. Canteen Car, and Kitchen car, in centre of train. Weather - cold and showery, with frequent rainstorms. RSC

En route for LE HAVRE 29 Train journey continued, with stops being made at different times to enable all ranks to exercise and obtain hot tea. Stops were also made at ALBERT and AMIENS, for a few minutes. Train reached LE HAVRE at about 23.30 hours, but Battalion was kept on train all night. Weather - Cool, and cloudy, with a few rainstorms. RAC

LE HAVRE 30 Battalion detrained at 7.30 hours, and marched to Canadian Embarkation Camp. (one mile) The Battalion was quickly billeted, and ration tickets issued to all ranks. Part of the Battalion put throgh baths and delousing plant, and medically inspected. A special party of Nine Officers and one hundred and twenty-four other ranks were despatched to England to take part in the Colonial March in London, on Saturday, May 3rd. Lieut.-Colonel A.D. Cameron, MC, Officer Commanding this Unit, was in charge of our party. Other officers in the party sent to England are ;-

Maor E.A. Olver, DSC Captain I.P. Cooke, MC. Captain G.H. Burland, MC Lieut. P.C. Trendell. Lieut. W.E. Frenon, DCM. Lieut. W.E. McGarrity, MM. Lieut. S. Knapp, MM. Lieut. R.G.H.W. MacCarthy, MM.

Weather - fair and cool.

Canadian Embarkation Camp, LE HAVRE 1 Muster Parade on No.1 Parade Ground. Men put through DeLousing Plant, and Baths. JPC Labour Day in France, and all ranks confined to camp. Extra picquets on duty to keep order. Rainfall during most of the day, and clearing up in evening. JPC

2 Clothing Parade held at 9.30 hours. Town and Camp Picquets assumed by this Unit today. Owing to congestion of the camp, thirty men placed in all huts today. Weather - fine. JPC

3 Muster Parade held at 9.30 hours in Aeroplane shed, close to the Camp. Clothing Parade continued. Many entertainments in progress in Y.M.C.A. huts and theatre, for the amusement of the men. Weather - fine. JPC

4 Voluntary Church Services held in the camp today. 192 men supplied for fatigues during morning. Indoor Baseball game in afternoon between a team of Officers and the Machine Gun Battalion won by the latter. JPC

S.S.St.Georges 5 Battalion fell in at 3.30 p.m. and moved off a few minutes later for the dock, and embarked on the "S.S.St.George". Embarkation completed at 6.00 p.m. Sailed at 5.15 p.m. Sea very calm and no one seasick. PJC

Southampton Bramshott 6 Ship anchored in Southampton Water at 2.00 a.m. and Men received breakfast on the docks, and a meal 10.30 a.m. for Liphook. Battalion reached Bram in "F" Wing, Canadian Corps Camp, with 85th Canadian Highlanders. Weather - fine and warm. PJC

Bramshott 7 Battalion Parade at 845 a.m. Documentation of men commenced, and men paraded for medical inspection. Weather - fine and warm. PJC

8 Men paraded for short boards, and documentation in progress. Weather - fine and warm. PJC

9 Documentation in progress, and men put through Quartermaster's stores. First party for for leave dispatched today. Weather - fair and warm. PJC

10 Battalion parade at 9.00. More men sent on leave early this morning. Documentation in progress and making good headqay. Weather - fine and warm. PJC

11 Church of England Service at 9.45 a.m. R.C.Service held in C.W.L. Hut at 10.00 hours. Weather - fair and warm. PJC

12 Battalion Parade at 9.00 hours. Men for leave proceeded during the morning by special train. Men to be examined by specialists were paraded. PJC

13 Parade at 8.45 hours. Leave now extended to all ranks till 21st instant. Weather - fair and warm. PJC

14 Battalion Parade held at 8.45 hours. Men for Long Boards paraded today. Weather still continues fine and warm. PJC
