BOURGEOIS 25 REVIEW by KING OF THE BELGIANS, of Brigade Group, on parade field close to Brigade Head- RSC quarters, in the morning. Educational classes in afternoon. Weather - cold and dull.

" 26 Battalion In Training. Educational Classes. Preparations made for forthcoming Platoon RSC Competition and conditions of same announced to the Companies. Weather - dull.

" 27 Battalion in Training. Educational classes held in morning and afternoon. Sports RSC in afternoon. Weather - dull and cold.

" 28 Battalion in training, and preparations active for Platoon Competition. Education. Weather - dull and cold. RSC

" 29 Battalion in Training in the morning. Canadian - Australian Boxing Competition held in RSC Brussels in afternoon. "Canadian Night" Performance at Theatre Royale de la Monnaie, Brussels, in evening. Weather - fair and cold.

" 30 Church services in Morning - Church of England Service at 9.30 hours in SALLE CRAPS. RSC Roman Catholic Service at 11.00 hours in Parish Church, GENVAL. Weather - cold and clear in mornign, with snow flurries in afternoon and evening.

" 31 Platoon Competition commenced this morning, and to be continued for two days. Sports RSC held in afternoon in preparation for Battalion Field Day to be held on Saturday April 5th. Weather - cold and clear.

WAR DIARY 38th Canadian Infantry Battalion original

Place -- Date -- Hour -- Summary of Events and Information Remarks and references to Appendices

Bourgeois 1 Battalion PLATOON COMPETITION. Right Company and Headquarters at baths. RSC BELGIUM Weather - fine and clear.

2 Left Company and Transport Section at baths during morning. Finals in Platoon Competition held on Battalion Parade Ground, and won by No. 3 Platoon; Second - No. 2 Platoon; Third - No. 8 Platoon. Weather - clear.

3 Battalion Parade at 9 o'clock in P.T.Kit, and taken for cross country run. Battalion RSC alotted seats at 75th Bn. Concert at GENVAL in evening. Educational classes held. Weather - clear.

4 Battalion again taken for cross country run at 9.00 hours in P.T.Dress. Educational classes held between 11.00 and 12.00 hours. Weather - clear. RSC

5 Battalion Parrade held on Grand Place, at 8.45 hours. Full programme of sports run off on Brigade Parade Field in afternoon, in the valley, and very successful. Headquarters won first place, in points, by a narrow margin over Right Company. Horse-back wrestling RSC won by team from 72nd Battalion. One hundred yards dash, won by Captain (Rev.) Wilkin, 4th C.Division Headquarters. Weather very clear and fine.

6. Church of England Serice held in Salle Crap at 9.15 hours RSC Roman Catholic Service in Parish Church, BOURGEOIS, at 10.00 hours. Weather - rine and clear.

7 Battalion Parade held at 9.00 hours. Lecture by Major Beaton, Canadian Corps Y.M.C.A., RSC explaining the working of the association during the war. Sports in afternoon, in preparation for Brigade Field Day. Weather - clear. RSC

8 Left Company and Transport Section paraded to Battalion Headquarters to fill in and complete Dispersal certificates. Weather fine.

9 Right Company and Headquarters paraded to Battalion Orderly Room to complete Dispersal RSC Certificates. Photographs taken of members of the original Battaion, and also all men who were members of the Battalions of the American Legion. Weather - fine and clear.

10 Commanding Officer's Parade, Headquarters and Transport Section forming up as an independent company. All ranks for discharge east of Ottawa, despatched to Battalions being dispersed east of Ottawa this date, and men for discharge in our Dispersal Area, (No.9) RSC were received from nearly all other Units of the Division. Weather - fine and clear.

Bourgeois, 11 Battalion Parade at 9.00 hours, formed up in close column of Companies. Concert given by BELGIUM Y.M.C.A. in Salle Crap at 18.00 hours largely attended, and very much apppreciated. RSC Weather - clear and cool.

12 Rain - Battalion Route March Cancelled. Battalion organized into five Companies; Right Company now No.1, Left Company now No.2, Men from Infantry Units now form No.3 Company, RSC other ranks from 4th Bn. C.M.G.C., Engineer Battalions, and such other units grouped together and known as No.4 Company; Headquarters and Transport Section form No.5 Company. Company Commanders as under;- No.1 - Captain G. H. Burlam, MC " 2 - Captain M. W. Williams, MC RSC " 3 - Captain W. S. Wilson " 4 - Captain F. H. Barnes, MC " 5 - Lieut. H. E. Brownlee.

13 Church of England Service at 10.00 hours in SALLE CRAP. Roman Catholic Service held in RSC Parish Church at Bourgeois at 9.30 hours. Weather - clear and cold.

14 Companies bathed during morning, and Nos. 1, 2 and 5 Companies paid in afternoon. RSC Weather - cloudy, windy and cold.

15 Battalion Route March in morning. Battalion Corporals' Club gave farewell dance at RSC Salle Crap Estaminet in evening, prizes being given. Weather - fair, with a few showers in afternoon. RSC

16 Muster Parade of the Five Companies, to check nominal rolls, as per dispersal area. Weather cloudy, with rain in afternoon.

17 Battalion Parade at 9.00 hours in walking out dress. Battalion Claims Board formed with the RSC following Officers as members, Major T. H. Warren, Captain I. P. Cooke, MC. Lieut. R. G. H. W. MacCarthy, MM, and Belgian Interpreter J. Linthout. The Battalion gave a farewell Dance in the paper factory near Genval in the evening. RSC Very successful. Weather - fine and clear.

18 Battalion Parade at 9.00 hours. Practices held in preparation for Brigade Field Day RSC Weather - fine and clear.

19 Companies at disposal of Company Commanders during the morning. Orders received that RSC the Battalion will move on the 26th instant. Weather - fine and clear.

20 Easter Church Services:- Church of England in Salle Crap at 9.00 hours. Roman Catholic RSC Service held in Parish Church at Genval at 11.00 hours. Weather - fine and clear.
