Summary of Intelligence from 9.30 Aug 21st to 9.00 pm
August 27th.
Throughout the period, both our Field and Heavy Artillery
has been continuously active. Each night enemy rear
areas and communications have been covered by har-
rassing fire. Enemy forward area, such positions as
GREEN CRASSIER, ALPACA TRENCH, the railway embank-
ment, CITE StANTOINE, CITE DU NORD and LENS have been
heavily bombarded. Considerable counter battery work
was also carried out.
Enemy Artillery was active for the first half of the period,
but except for heavy counter battery activity, was quiet
on front line system during the past three days. Each
morning at dawn there has been brick shelling for
short periods of both the AVION and ELEU sectors. Support
Lines and communication trenches were particularly
dealt with the two days following the attack of the
Left Brigade on August 21st while on August 25th
the area between LA COULOTTE and the RED LINE, including
