Front Line 1917 Aug 26 cont.
there was a light fifteen minute bombardment at dawn
with some fire on ELEU trench. Some gas shells were
also used. The enemy inflicted on us light fire fro
Gratenwerfer guns during the night. There was also
limited shelling in AVION from heavy Trench Mortars
which fire is now being registered on the advanced
new front line and the line of our advanced posts.
Their machine guns were more active than usual.
Very heavy from the vicinity of GREEN CRASSIER. There
was no enemy sniping. At 5 am an enemy
plane over our lines discharged white flares at N.32.
d.9.5. Hostile aeroplanes were very active until
10 a.m and five observation balloons were up during
the day. At 7 am an enemy party of three
was observed at N.33.a.5.4. N.27.d.9.9 is believed
to be the approximate location of enemy sniping gun
referred to in our intelligence report of yesterday as
parties have been seen carrying ammunition to this
point. Enemy Machine Gun emplacements are
suspected to be located at N.20.c.8.3 and also at
N.27.b.25.30. At 6.30 pm during our bombar-
ment, enemy fired white flares from N.29.c.4.8
