without having suffered any casualties.
The water between EMBANKMENT and DIGBY ROAD is from three
to four feet deep. The Railway Embankment at above
point seems to be in fairly good condition. A Machine
Gun was firing from the Right, but its position could
not be found. It would appear that the Embank-
ment is fairly heavily held by night and bursts of
shrapnel or H.E. on this point might cause consider-
able casualties to the enemy. From observation made
it would appear that the Embankment would lend
itself to being loopholed affording good facilities for
daylight sniping. The enemy appeared to be very
nervous. He continued to throw bombs until our
party was well back in our lines. Protective patrols
were out on our Battalion frontage, but these had
nothing to report..

Reports.
Our Artillery was active on enemy lines from CITE St.
ANTOINE west through LENS to GREEN CRASSIER with haras-
sing fire on back areas. A large amount of shrap-
nel has been placed over the GREEN CRASSIER, while
our heavy guns destroyed one span of Railway bridge
