Front Line 1917 Aug 11 cont.
our SULLIVAN Trench with Field glasses. A party of six
carrying boxes and bags from N.35.d.7.4. was observed
making several trips to N.33.b.2.6. A party was seen
carrying a machine gun from N.21.d.5.5.
At 9.35 pm a large fire was seen at N.21.b. and at 2.45 pm
another large fire was seen at N.21.b.2.4. RBO'S

do 12 Batt. in Front Line. Great aerial activity with Huns
vigorously shelling Observation Balloons. A Hun plane
after supper swooped down & attacked an observation
balloon and in turn was attacked by British plane
& forced to descent. The activity of our artillery was
normal. At intervals our heavy artillery directed fire
on enemy area in rear of railway embankment and
engaged in counter-battery work. At 7.15 pm a faint
barrage covered our left Battalion front but there was
no hostile retaliaion. Our Light Trench Mortars
