Front Line 1917 Aug 11 cont
in front of this position. Our Lewis Machine Guns
carried on bursts of fire along entire enemy front and
wire during the night, Vickers guns being employed on
back areas. One of our Snipers, no 144051. Pte. L. BEAULIEU
shot one of the enemy at N.33.a.4.6. six Germans being
seen standing in the trench at the Railway Embank-
ment here. Our airraft showed abnormal activity
late this afternoon. Thooughout the same
period, hostile artillery fire has been much below
normal on front line system, but decidedly active on
back areas. LA COULOTTE was shelled both foreoon
and afternoon by heavy guns. This fire was also
distributed along the light railway and as far as
the ridge at S.5.b. and C. Enemy Trench Mortars
showed less activity than usual. Gratenwerfer gun
from direction of N.26.b.7.5. was again active between
