Front Line Aug 3 cont.
of movement and work at N.21.d.8.8., at 5.40 a.m., a
party of six men having been seen working on Trench at
this point, handling timber. Later a party of four left
cellar at N.27.a.20.75. and joined this working party.
At 8.30 am two men were seen carrying timber into trench
at N.21.d.8.8. Enemy trench from N.21.d.8.9. to N.32.
c.0.7. is heavily wired. Explosions occured at N.33.
b.3.1. N.22.c.2.5., N.21.b.2.3. early this morning. At N.21.
b.2.2. there was an explosion at 8.30 am which caused
two houses to collapse at this point. Enemy signals.
Red flares breaking into two green lights were replied to
by artillery fire during the night. Judging by the
attitude of the enemy during the night, it would
appear that something in the nature of an attack was
anticipated by the regularity with which he placed
artillery fire on what would, in the event of an attack,
