War Diary for the month of July 1917

1917 July 31. cont and strong points in back areas. Between 2 and 4
o'clock this morning, our heavy guns covered the en-
tire Brigade front with about 150 high explosive
shells. During the day, hostile area dealt with in-
cluded N. 26. d. 5.5 N. 27 b. 5.1. N. 27 C. 1.5, N. 27 a. 1.1.
N. 22. d. 2.1. and N. 28. b. 8.8. This afternoon at 5' o'clock
a 10 minute barrage was placed on the railway
embankment and at 5.15 pm. a second barrage was
placed in N. 33., a. c. and d. At intervals during
the night, bursts of Lewis gun fire was directed to ruins
of buildings and suspected posts of the enemy in AVION.
Owing to weather conditions there was little activity
with our aircraft.
The evening showed activity with their artillery at
infrequent intervals. Between 10 o'clock & midnight
