period covered in this report. Enemy machine gun fire was partiew?
? heavy at night sweeping our Front Line area, as well as vacinity
of work in progress on new Front Line, while there was also indirect
fire on our back areas. This fire appeared to come from T.1.d.9.s
T.1.b.2.5. T.1.d.1.8 and T.1.a.1.9. In the past two days this machine
gun fire has greatly decreased, owing possibly to the attention hos-
tile machine gun posts have received from our artillery as well
as the activity of our own machine guns. Our Lewis Guns have
carried on fire at frequent intervals throughout each day, covering
suspected enemy posts, the ruins of buildings on our front and
enemy front system generally. We have combined with this, indi-
vidual rifle fire, each rifleman firing from 10 to 20 rounds
each day.
4. Enemy snipers on May 25th were particularly active. The past
three days, however, there has been practically no enemy sniping, each
day having seen a marked decrease in same. Our snipers have been
