Vimy 1917 May 3 cont.
Five shells from our Light Field Artillery burst within 150 yards
of our front line trench at about S. 6. & 8.4 at midnight.
our patrol narrowly escaping casualties from same.
A great deal of patrolling was carried out by our aircraft
this afternoon, our machines being heavily shelled by
A.A. guns. RBO'S

do 4th Batt. in front line in Left Sector.
Operation Order no 72 issued.
"A" Company will relieve "C" Company in the front line
tonight, May 4th, leaving present position at dusk. The
Machine Gun crews of "B" Company will continue to
work with the front line company at present. It is
not desirable that the inter-company relief should interfere
with the work in progress in the front line - On relief, there-
fore, the O.C. "C" Company will detail a party of not less
than 30 men to continue the work which was in progress
