Front Line 1917 Sep 15 cont.
midnight, scattered bombardment of enemy rear areas
during the day. Our Trench Mortars, thoughout the
night, fired on RED CHATEAU and grounds around
Fosse? 4 de LIEVIN. There was active fire by our Brigade
Machine guns on enemy communications and the
Lewis Guns were active today against enemy aircraft.
Our usual rifle fire was carried on against the
enemy lines and suspected posts. Our aircraft sup-
plied the usual patrol and observation work.
The enemy artillery was very quiet on ELEU Sector,
normal on AVION front. Some damage was caused
to our new trench rear junction of FRONT LINE and
AVION Main Road. There was scattered shelling of
rear areas this afternoon by enemy Heavy ARtillery.
The AVION Sector was intermittantly bombarded during
the night by enemy's Trench Mortars. Granattenwafer
Gun believed to be firing from N.27.a.70.05.
Enemy machine guns were active on ELEU and
COLUMBIA Trenches throughout the night and against
our aeroplanes today. Hostile machine guns believed
to be firing from N.26.a.90.95 (Bridge Pier), N.26.b.70.45.
