preceding day. Retaliation to our attack of 3 a.m.
was slow in commencing and was not heavy at any
period. Our new front line in AVION from 2.30 to 6.30
am was heavily bombarded by enemy's Trench Morters
Hostile Gratenwerfer guns were active throughout the
night and this afternoon on Left Company front.
The entire Battalion frontage was subjected to heavy Ma-
chine Gun fire following the attack on the GREEN CRAS-
SIER at 3 a.m. Enemy sniping was active this
morning and again this afternoon during hostile
counter attck. Very few enemy machines appeared
during the day. Two crossed our lines at 5.45 am one
being brought down a little later. At 8. pm last
night and again this morning, parties of the enemy
were seen around a house at N.27.a.95.80. Several
enemy parties of about ten men were observed carrying
boxes from steel bridge at N.27.d.9.8 to N.27.c.6.8.
It is believed that the enemy have a tunnel at N.20.
b.45.50. as prisoners and wounded men disappeared
at this point.
