Front Line 1917 June 19 cont.
party reported by one of our patrols. This party numbered
about fifteen and after daylight, nine (9) casualties were
taken away from the spot under a Red Cross flag, three
stretcher and six walking cases. About ten of our
aeroplanes patrolled our lines during the day, several
crossing enemy line flying unusually low.

With the exception of about 130 H.E. shells directed against
us, hostile artillery was quiet. About 75 Grattenwer-
fer bombs fell last night at T.1.a.4.7. and T.1.c.4.8.
No damage was caused. Enemy machine guns showed
very little activity & their sniping was quiet. Four of
their aeroplanes crossed our lines during the day, but
retired in a short time, fired on by our A.A. & Lewis guns.
Dense smoke was observed about 6 a.m. at N.31.d.1.1. It
lasted several minutes. About 4 am twenty explosions
of large proportions were heard in the outskirts of LENS.
