Description: [101] pages : illustrations, plant samples ; 28 cm. Cloth tape over thick card. Index page followed by 101 unnumbered pages containing 50 plant samples affixed with cloth tape, each with a full description in manuscript on the opposite page. Assembled in 1897 by African American high school student, Walter Alexander (1880-1910) of Ironton, Ohio. Alexander created the notebook when he was around 17-years-old while attending Kingsbury Public High School.
