Report of Finance Committee Ohio University June 23rd 1863 To the President and Trustees of the Ohio University the Board of Trustees, submit their Annual Report. The within abstract shows the receipts and expenditures of the University for the fiscal year ending with the 20th day of June A.D. 1863. At the last Annual Settlement June 20th 1862 the amount of cash found in the hands of the Treasurer was Twenty four hundred and thirty five 30/100 Dollars. The amount found in the hands of the Treasurer on Settlement June 20th 1863, was Twenty nine hundred and seventy 90/100 dollars. The total expendirues during the last year amount to the sum of Forty nine hundred and Sven 61/100 dollars. For a statement of the several items the Committe refer to foregoing abstract, L. At a special meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Ohio University held at the usual place in Athens on the 28th day of September A.D. 1863. The following members were prsent, to wit President Soloman Howard, Calvary Morris, John Welch, S.G. Brown, L. Jewett, Rev. Spalm, and J.M. Dana. On motion it was Resolved That untill the the next meeting of the Board, tuition be furnished free of charge to all young men of Ohio who may have been discharged from service in the present war, on account of wounds received therein, and that we recommend to the Board to adopt this as a permanent policy at its next meeting. On motion it was Resolved That E.H. Gutner acting Professor of Languages, shall receive the full salary appropriated to said Professorship during his continuance therein. On motion it was Resolved, That F.A. Spenan acting Principal of the preparatory Department be paid at the rate of $400 for year until otherwise ordered.

On motion it was Resolved That W.B. Hubbard, J.M. Trimble, Horace Wilson, John Welch, and S.B. Brown be and are herby appointed a committee to act in context with a Committee of the Miam University in memorializing the General Assembly of the State of Ohio, on the subject of accepting the donation of 500.00 acres of land by the general government for the purpose of establishing Agricultural schools. And ultimately dividing the proceeds of teh same between the two named universities.

Athens Ohio February 4th 1864 The acting Committee of the Board of Trustees of the Ohio Univeresity met at the Office of Judge Brown. Present Leonidas Jewett, S.B. Brown, E.H. Moore & J.M. Dana On motion William H. Scott S.B. was apppointed Principal of the Preparatory Department of the Ohio University at a Salary of Six Hundred Dollars per annual. Attn J.M. Dana Secretary
