28 (top left corner) Annual Meeting. Tuesday August 6, 1850 Ohio University. Athens. August 6, 1850 This being the day appointed for the Annual Meeting of the Board, the following named members were in attendance, to wit. Rev. Alfred Ryors, D.D. President, Rev. Wm Aikin, Gen. Saml. F. Maccracken, Amos Miller Esq. V.B. Horton Esq. John Welch Esq. Leonidas Jewett Esq. and A.G. Brown Secy. There not being a quorum present adjourned to tomorrow morning Wednesday Morning, Aug. 7 Present as yesterday. There not being a quorum pres= ent, it was resolved to proceed to business under the regu= lations heretofore adopted by the Board in such cases. The Minutes of the last meeting were read. The President reported from the Faculty, that Archibald (underlined) Douglas Brown (underlined) and DeWitt Clinton Loudon (underlined) of the Senior Class, had completed their courses of studies, sus= tained their final examinations and were recommend= ed as candidates for the first degree in arts. On motion, Resolved that the degree of A.B. be con= ferred upon said A.D. Brown + D.W.C. Loudon.(names underlined) The Acting Committee made the following Report which was referred to a Select Committee, reported back & adopted. Whereas since the last meeting of the Board, the Acting Com= mittee have caused to be issued and put into the hands of Agents for sale, two hundreds Certificates of Scholarships (underlined), for nine terms or three years each, at thirty dollars for each certificate, for any nine terms within the six years next after the 1st of the year 1850. Therefore Resolved, That the Board hereby approve and confirm said measures of the Committee, adopting the same as its acts and meas= ures of the Board; and hereby autorize said Committee to com= (written inbetween) no compensation shall be allowed or paid plete the sale of said Certificates - Provided- That ^ to any Agent em= ployed by the Committee to make sale of said certificates exceeding five per cent on the amount by him sold. Resolved- That instead of the allowance to the President and Professors from Tuition fees heretofore made as part of their com= pensations, there be allowed and paid to them respectively from the money arising from sales of said Certificates as follows- to with a sum equal to the amount received by them for the year just observed. At 10 o'clock A.M. adjourned to attend the Com= mencement exercises, and to hear an address by Rev. D.V.McLean D.D. to the Alumni and former Students of the University.

29 (top right corner) Annual Meeting. Thursday, August 8, 1850

Thursday Morning 8 o'clock, Aug. 8. Not pursuant to adjournment, present as yeseterday. The Select Committee consisting of Messrs. Horton, Mac= cracken and Aikin, reported as follows. The Committee to whom was referred the Papers setting forth the doings of the Acting Committee in relation to Scholarship beg leave to report the following Preamble and Resolutions, and recommend their adoption. V.B. Horton Chairman Which Report was accepted and said Preamble and Resolutions a= dopted. (See preceding page) A Communication was received from Pro. Williams in relation to certain Stove rents and offering certain Books the subject of which was indefinitely postponed. A Bill of $22.95 presented by Prof. Hoge for expenses in fitting up a room for his use in the centre building, was indefinitely postponed. On motion, Resolved that the Acting Committee be author= ized to recover back from J.Y. Howe a supposed overcharge in his bill for painting the Roof of the West Wing. On motion Resolved, that a sum not exceeding two hundred dollars ($200) be placed at the disposal of the Pres= ident as a contingent fund for Janitor services and other incidental expenses On motion, Resolved, that a sum not exceeding four hundred dollars ($400.) be placed at the disposal of the Acting Committee to pay the expenses of a new roof for the centre building and other necessary repairs and incidental matters. On Motion, Resolved, that a Meeting of the Board be held on Tuesday preceding the last day of the Spring Term in April next, and that the Secretary give notice thereof. On Motion Resolved, that the Treasurer be directed to collect all back rents due for the years 1843,4,5,6,7,8,9, before the next annual settlement, or, in case of failing to reenter the Lands + Lots remaining delinquent without exceptions, in order that the same may be offered for sales: and that hereafter, he proceed at once to collect all rents remaining unpaid for two months after the same shall become due, by distress or reentry; and that all reentered lands and lots be sold as soon as possible after such reentry made. On Motion, Resolved, that the Finance Committee be instructed to examine thoroughly into the State of the Finances for the current and succeeding years, and report thereon at the next and each succeeding meeting of the Board. Resolved, that such Report shall include, in addition to the points contained in their Report to the Meeting, the amount of expenditures from the 1st of January each year to the time of such meeting of the Board, as also the amount paid on depts during the same period. Resolved, that the President be requested to report at each meeting of the Board the sums expended from the funds appropriated and placed at his disposal.
