Report of Finance Committee.
"To the President + Trustees of the Ohio University
The Finance Committee beg leave to make the following Report:
Total amount of outstanding Orders, Jan. 1, 1851. $428 41
of outstanding Funded Orders " " 2,461 80
of State funded debt " " 6,000 00 = $8,890 21
The available assests of the University
Amount of Duplicate for 1850 $4041 68
" Back Rents 334 02
" Sales of Scholarships 1000 00
" Interest on Deposits in State Treasury 113 84
" Sale of Lots 1000 00
" Balance in Treasury Jan. 1, 1851 840 72 = 7,330 26
Total indebtedness Jan. 1850. $9,729.89

The amount of expenditures since the 1st of January 1851 (which
were not included in the settlement and Report of that date)
exclusive of payments made to President and Professors on account
of Salaries is $24.97, which was expended by the President from
his contingent fund. No payment has been made upon
the debts of the University during that period.

Met pursuant to adjournment.
On Motion, Resolved, that the Acting Committee
be authorized to employ Prof. C. Briggs, as Professor of
Natural Sciences, for six months in each year at a rate
of four hundred dollars for such period of six months.
On Motion, Resolved that the Acting Committee
be authorized to settle with Messrs. Knowles & Matchmore for
their services in disposing of Scholarships.
On Motion adjourned.
