Joan Joffre of Jofre came from Briangon, in the French
Alps. 1st signed work is of 1502. For the first few years
his material was miscellaneous + his activity spasmodic,
but from 1510 he began to build up his position as the
principal Valencian pritner of his time. His last
recorded work is of March 22, 1530. His press appears
to have been taken over by Francisco Diaz Romano
who began printing in 1531

- 1st books printed in Spain + bearing a date (1474)
were executed at Valencia.

- Official language of Valencia - a Catalan dialect.

- Jorge Cocci printed one other contemporary Latin
work of some importance. This was a history of
Aragon written by Marineo, Lucio, Siudo at the
behest of the Eight Deputies of Aragon for presentation
to King Ferdinand.

1524 - 1st missionaries (Franciscans) in Mexico.
- the Castilian dialect is the standard Spanish dialect.
