Type : 105R large square text type, mostly - medium capitals. Q is
seperate, the tail being slightly curved & lying practically level - the line. C bold & rough,
E,H & M narrow, 2 flawes in diagonal of N, broad S leaning slightly to left.*
Part I containing the life of St. Jerome has 17 column - cuts.
Part II has 120 , Part III has 41.
Kraus Cat. - 1st ed of the Letters of St. Jerome in Italian. The very fine
93 #159 full page borders & the large number of outline woodcuts
neatly fitted into the columns above attractive initials
have secured for this work a distinguished place in
Italian book illust. of the 15th C. This copy has at the
beginning, the 4 pages of the Vita of the saint, not
present in all surviving copies. They include 1 woodcut
title, the charming woodcut of the birth of the saint & 17
text illustrations.
