The licoris + the Setwale (Velerian).1 Gerard (1597) p. 239 Of lettuce. Latin-lactuca German - lattich - Columella lactuca - when the leaves are curled. -All the figures have been recut in Gruninger's 2nd ed. He subsequently used them to illustrate H. Brunschwig's "Book of Distillation." -All standard works used by the medical practitioners had been reproduced in 1 or more ed. by about 1480 - M. Sylvaticus, Serspio, Mesue, N. Salairitanus, Macer floridus, Rhezes, Dyascorides, Pliny, B. Anglicus + V. Besuvais. MMu(P)L - Liquiricis Cap ccxxiiii leaf p. 112 Goff G99 Lattich Cap ccxxiii rubricated, not colored - cut not identical with mine, type the same, layout + orthography different.

HEHL before - Rarabe augstein ccxxii Goff G108 after - Leuisticum liebstockel ccxxv rubricated in red. -Early herbals arranged herbs in alphabetical order or according to their use by physicians. Lobel (1576) tried to make a systematic classif. of herbs based on the form of the leaves. Although not entirely correct, his work was the 1st attempt to treat botany independently from medicine as a desipline in its own right. B.on. Polish herbal - Stephan Falimirz, On herbs + their efficiency Florian Ungler - Cracow 1534. over 550 cuts.

1481 - Geoffroy de Marnef set up shop as a licensed book seller in Paris. He als had a branch at Bourges. His brothers Enguilbert + Jean + his son Hiersome were all booksellers. Mer des histoires. Paris: Galliot du Pre. 1536. 2 vol. in 1 illus. 33m 5cm (Huntington) Enguilbert de Marnof (1491-1533)

- Same woodcut as in 1488 Verad edition. 1535 Coverdale Bible - similar too. "The second days work" Brunet III. * 1641 - Dans l'ed. de la Mer des histoires, imprime a Paris, pour Anguilbert de Manef et Francois Regnault, sans date, 2 vol. in fol. goth a 2 col. fig sur bois, l'ouvrage est continue jusqu'a l'an Martyrologe, suivi d'une table.

Kraus Cat. 66 #486. * The 108 woodcuts in Otmar's Deutscher Bibel of 1507 are reduced copies of those in the Cologne Bible, which had already been used by Schonsperger in his 1487 Bible. Since Otmar's ed. had wider columns than were in Schonsperger's ed., he had to add ornamental borders along the sides of the woodcuts to make them fill the column. Otmar reused these same woodcuts again in his 1518 Bibel.

(a-a10 f6 g-m10) 116 leaves. 3a: 38 lines, 198x121mm. (286x204) Type 105 2 pinholes. Capital spaces Roman text type. The Q has a long tail + the u is close up to it.

Goff R12 It is suggested that this rare work was written by [inserted] a 13th C Minorite of Siena [end inserted] Bindo de Sanius, rather than Rampigollis Goff R25 BMC VIII p 155 Figurse Bibliae - "The prologue of this work, addressed to the Augustinians of Naples, is also this work, addressed to the early ed of the Biblia aurea (Aureum Bibliae reportorium), which is not by Rampegollis byt by Bindo de Senis. The Biblia aurea appears to have been printed only in Germany before 1501." Goff R22 Compendium Morale folio. Type 105, 179 leaves, leaf 9 blank, 10a: 138 lines, 202x120mm. Capital spaces. 2 pinholes. [*8; a-q10 r1041] The prologue to this book is that of the Reportorium Bibliae of A. de Rampegollis with numerous small changes. Antonius de Rampegollis - famous theologian from Genova, d. about 1420 (Augustinian.). Calebrated theological work. my leaf k1 (of 10) HEHL 104167 Large P's rubricated in red but quite different (much larger with extensions) No underlining or paragraph rubrication. -my lear occurs - beginning of last 1/3 of the book before Peregrini recipie di sunt ad hospiciu videlz [crossed out] permittut boni aliqua fieri [end crossed out] after Perfeuerare debetho -arranged alphabetically (A-Z)
