Each distintion is made up of sereral citations from capitula, arranged to state a point, then raise qualifications or finally reach a conclusion, The lot 20 distinctiones discuss the sources of law the other 81 are devoted various problems of the organization, discipline & Decretum- includes about 4000 capitula & is divided privileges of the church. into 3 parts. I- 101 distinctiones- each one on a particular topic* II- 36 causae or cases (each divided into Quaestiones. Each causae treats only 1 topic (27-36 constitue a treatise on Matrimony) III- entitled [De conssecratione is general divided into 5 distinctiones and is a treatise on the Sacraments There is consideable discussion as to the orgin of Gratian's treament of Penance & his De consecratione. His treatment of Penance is introduced without explanation in the middle of causa 33. Both treatises & particularly the one on Penance differ noticeably from the rest of the work, A study of the manuscripts has revealed numerous anomalies in the transcriptions of these 2 treaties to the Bartholomaeus of Brescia ( 2nd city of Lombardy - 52 miles [--?] of Milan) - cannot, born 2nd 1/2 of 12 th C, .d. 1258 Casus Decretorum Glossa ordinaria Decreti - a revision of the work of Joannes Teutonicus & was published between 1240-45. This version of the Glossa ordinania was appended to most manascripts of the Decretum. When printed editions began to be published it was also often printed along to the text of the Decretum in the form of a marginal gloss. - Joannes Teutonicus (d 1245) was German who studied at Bologna & was among the leading professors of the University from 1210-20. He combined his own & the best of earlier commentaries [with] the provisions of recent papal legislation & produced a complete in a marginal gloss which soon became standard - the Glossa Ordinaria, finished in 1215. The gloss was later modified by B. Brixiensis (d. 1258). His revision completed around 1245 was the state in which the Gloss was copied in the late Middle Ages & printed in the 15 & 16th C.

Although the Descretion was under formable promulgated as law, the aurthority of its owners & its comprehensive brought it into universal use, first in universities & schools to consequently episopal courts & religious houses all over Europe. *Consordia Discordantium Canonum (agreement of disagreeing canons) Christian- his single works was the Decretion in which he stated a great problem of the medieval church in the aIternative title* and solved that problems in the body of the work. De Penitioncia appearing in some ancient manascripts as an addition. At any rate: if the DuPointencion & the Du consecration were not an intergral part of Christian work. they must have been added to it shortly following publication. since they were known to the first commentators. Decretion- its duralbility is reflected in the fact that it was not completely superseded until the promulgation of the Code of Canon Law in 1917. The 1st compilation of canon law by the celebrated Binedictine Christians ( 15th. C ). The resulting treator, the decretion, became the basic of Canon Law -Early in the history of the Christian Empire, the right & duties of the clergy are embodied in the laws of Theododius & Justinian & later in the Breviary of Alaric & the Laws of the Barbariane, while the Apostolic Canon the Councile ' liber pointentialis ' & others contained regulations for its internal govenment.

After rather a slow + late start in the 1470's Missals became one of the commonest closses of 15th C publication. Hundreds of editions of Missals were printed in the 14893 +14905, in numerous cities; they were adapted to the specific uses of a wide variety of diocuses and orders - Augustinian Benedictine, Franciscian + so on. Bamberg + Babenbergse, Bambergae.

Paris 1500 Missal (manuscript) contents - a calendar, the Temporal with the feasts for the whole liturgical year centered around the 2 cycles of Christmas + Easter with the common of the Mass inserted before Easter Sunday, the Sanctoral with the feast of saints venerated on fixed dates througout the year, the Common of Saints, 2 other Masses + prayers. 138 Sept. '82 J.S. Edgren, Carmel $25 Oryun haengsilto - illust. examples of the 5 basic Confucian obligations (paper with wood block printed text + illustration) Chongnija type of 1795. Printed 1797, soon after the #15 font was cast, + including text in Chinese + Korean plus woodcut illustration 3 half-folios Format: 10 columns of 20 characters Size of type face Border: double, 22x14.5cm(1/2 folio) L. 1.1x1.4 Copy: Seoul National Univ. S. 1.1x0.7 Kyokgjaech'uk - a collection of eulogies by King Chongjo (r.1796-1800) + his ministers - printed 1795 - among the first books published with chongnija. Another early publication was Oryun haengsilto (1797) which is complete in 4 volumes + contains excellent Korean woodcut illustrations. A fine at the Bureau of Type - casting (Chajaso) of the Government Printing Office in 1857 destroyed the original chongnija font, but it was promptly re-cast the following year, + maintains the dignified style of its predecessor. -hangul - the newly invented Korean alphabet - promulgated in 1446. -onhae Type of Korean book -refers to paraphrase translations into Korean of Chinese texts generally Buddhist - indirectly contributed to preserving hangul script.

Printing with movable types ceased in Korea about 1544, but was resumed again for a time in 1770. Melvin McGavean - Cast in Seoul, this bronze type was modeled after the Suengsaeng -Je of 1792. Types cast for this font 140,000 small characters + 160,000 large. This type was so popular that one year after the great fire of 1857 it was on of the 1st to be selected for recasting by the Publications Office. This type is now started at the Kyongbok Palace in Seoul. Most books printed from this type have 10 perpendicular lines of 20 characters each on a page.
