Plate #18 Haebler. Basel. Type 2.
"One may resonably doubt whether Puppels Type 2 is to be
considered as a new type or whether it is not rather to be
considered as a recasting on a somewhat smaller body of his
Type 1. The forms of the letters agree almost absolutely.
It is here that for the somewhat badly formed e of the 1st
type, a clearer + more agreeable shape has been designed, but
all the other differences are either not continued or may be
accounted for by a change in the practice of setting.
It is known what for reaching deductions the Gutenberg
investigators have drawn from these differences of forms
that are met with in single letters in Gutenberg's earliest
books. A class study of the other early types will show
that such alternatives are by no means annual with the types
of the early days. Therefore, one must not give too much
import ot these alterations."

THe volume was produced by B. Rappel the 1st pritner of Basel [inserted] introduced printing no later than 1468 [end inserted] who is
believed to have been the assistant of Johann Gutenberg. "Batolff von
Hannouwe", who testified in the lawsuit between Gutenberg +
Fust in 1455.
