In anser to the question.
Do you remember what it was like when
wounded or suprised I felt nothing.
My No 2 Pte Defuse and I started digging in at one
place we stopped or I should say held up.
I found to my surprise that I couldn't use
my right arm. My muscle seem to cramp
and was very painfull. Not long after
I was hit in the very place where I felt
the pain. When I was hit I felt it very
much more than when I was wounded before
that is why I write like this now. My
hand starts to shake. I can feel my arm
ache now but it does not hurt as much as
when I did it.
During the short time we were fired
on when I was hit we also lost our officer
Lt. J.A. Kirkpatrick who joined us from the
artillery just before D Day. A well liked
man I can tell you. He was killed like
every officer that went into action with
our platoon on the desert and in Sicily. We
also lost two cpls and five Ptes. which
left our platoon at the time I was wounded.
1 L/Cpl and seven privates out of
forty two which included
stretcher bearers
battalion signallers.
This I believe was just the same throught the battalion.
