seaside town slightly larger
than a village. That night houses
caugh fire on promenade.

Came ashore eight. They were
actually told before leaving
Britain that they would "walk
up the beaches and the Canadians
would have a tent with a
change of clothing for anybody
who needed dry clothes. " [?Marines?]
took this with large grain
of salt.

Hit by wonton fire coming
in our port side wounding
his pla in thigh. [crossed out] You [end of crossed out] Scoot
was unable to get off our port
side ramp becaue of wreckage
so went to starboard side
where you found a wounded man
in legs near ramp. "What [crossed out] are [end of crossed out] the
hell are you standing there looking
at me for - get going' From then
on it was almost like a dream.
There were a lot of wounded,
but Scoot made of the sea
wall partly in a daze. Most of
the firing was from a pill box
which fired latterly down
beach. One lance corporal ran
out away from wall and on
