In times of great crisis, people generally show either great ingenuity or self-reliance; others do incredibly stupid things. Do you remember any examples of either?

The fellow I referred to early who wished he had a camera with him, got off of the landing craft under heavy shell fire and small arms fire and walked up to the dune line which was about a good city block from the landing point as though he was walking a street back in the states. He seemed to have no fear. The best part about it was that he never got a scratch.

Where were you at midnight on June 5, 1944? I was a sleep on the Princess Maud a channel steamer. The invasion was set for the fifth but plans were changed so at 1930 hrs on the fifth we went to bed.

Where were you at midnight on June 6, 1944?

Do you know of anybody else who landed within those 24 hours (midnight June 5 to midnight June 6) as infantry, glider or airborne troops, or who took part in the air and sea operations, whom we should write to? NO

PLEASE LET US HAVE THIS QUESTIONNAIRE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, SO THAT WE CAN INCLUDE YOUR EXPERIENCES IN THE BOOK. WE HOPE THAT YOU WILL CONTINUE YOUR STORY ON SEPARATE SHEETS IF WE HAVE NOT LEFT SUFFICIENT ROOM. FULL ACKNOWLEDGEMENT WILL BE GIVEN IN A CHAPTER CALLED "WHERE THEY ARE NOW; YOUR NAME AND VOCATION OR OCCUPATION WILL BE LISTED.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP.

TO: Miss Frances Ward Readers' Digest 230 Park Ave New York, N.Y.

Dear Miss Ward;

In reading the American Legion Magazine for June, I came across your add wanting veterans of D-Day invasion on Normandy Beachheads. I was a sgt in an Engr unit that made the initial invasion as demolition teams to clear the beach of obstacles. I like to see the men who deserve the credit get it, I would be glad to offer what help I can.
