Mr. Richard L. Munger 15 Francis Street Buffalo 12, New York
Dear Mr. Munger:
Thank you for your recent letter and for your interest in Cornelius Ryan's book about D-Day. I am sorry that I have not replied sooner—we have been overwhelmed as well as very gratified by the con- tinuing flow of mail received from D-Day veterans all over the world.
Thou we have many stories and much material, we are always eager to have the help of another man who went into Normandy. We know that the story of the demolition units was one of the most awful and most moving. If you would be willing to tell us your part of it, I would be grateful if you would complete the enclosed questionnaire and return it to me at your first opportunity, so that Mr. Ryan may use it when he returns from Europe next month and prepares for interviews in this coun- try. I should also like to know whether or not you could talk with him in Buffalo some time during August or early September.
I must explain that we are not in a position to offer any pay- ment or guarantee to men who agree to help us, other than a promise that full credit will be given in the book for any information which appears in the final manuscript. The story is too big and numbers too many to permit our paying each contributor as indeed we would like to do. I hope that you will be willing to help us nonetheless, and 1 shall look forward to hearing from you again.
Sincerely yours,
Frances Ward Research Department
