Dear Colonel Gibbons:

Many thanks for completing the questionnaire in such detail. Obvi-
ously, because of the great distance between us it is impossible for me to
talk with you personally--much as I would like to. So we will have to conduct
your interview by mail.

a paragraph or two.

of my publishers to sign the attached release.

So much for all that. Regarding your questionnaire I have one or
two more questions for you:

Answer No. 11 (the journey over and the postponement of the invasion):
Do you remember the names of any of the people who were with you? Can you
remember the gist of any conversations you held with them?

Answer No. 14 (the LCT containing the battery which sank): Do you
remember the commander's name?

Answer No. 19 (the hometown boyhood and West Point friend whom you
met face to face on the beach): Do you remember his name? Do you remember
any conversations you held with him--or the gist of the conversation?

Is there anything else you would like to add? If so, please let me
know.

You will be pleased to know that the entire research of the book,
including all of the questionnaires, letters, index cards, maps, and so forth,
