Dear Mr. Farrell, Mr. Ryan is now In London working on his D-Day researches and would very much like to meet you at a mutually convenient time. We have tried to telephone you at your London telephone number but have so far been unsuccessful. I wonder, therefore, if you would very kindly telephone us at this office when you are next in Town. Yours Sincerely,

4th July, 1958. J.A. Farrell, Esq., 7, Swan Studio, 69, Deodar Road, Putney, S.W. 15. Dear Mr. Farrell, Thank you for talking to us on Tuesday morning. I am extremely sorry that you could not help us, but I thought I would drop you a note to explain the reason why we are unable to recompense each person interviewed. There are so many people involved in this history that it would frankly be impossible to pay everybody. As it is - I think you will agree with me as one writer to another - it is extremely lucky for me that The Reader's Digest is underwriting the project. Their costs will far exceed any possible return in view of the fact that research has been conducted in Germany, America, England and France on such a major scale.

Once again, may I express my thanks to you for at least talking to me. Yours sincerely,

Cornelius J. Ryan
