it is said for about twenty years. The larger whales are by far the largest of all animals, ranging from thirty feet to over one hundred feet in length.

The hoofed mamals [mammals] (Ungulata) include many forms all of which walk upon the tops of their toes, the claws having become developed into hoofs.

Our domestic sheep and cattle our [are] probably the decendants [descendants] of several wild species, living in Europe and other portions of the world. The horse is the direct decendant [descendant] of the Asiatic wild breeds while the pig traces its ancestry back to the wild boar of Europe and probably a native species of eastern Asia.

Among the flesh eating mamals [mammals], (ferae) are the lions, tigers, bears, seals, etc. They differ from other mamals [mammals] by the large size of the canine teeth and the moler [molar], which are adapted for cutting not crushing. protected.

The domestic dog is probably is probably the decendant [descendant] from the wolf. The domestic cat has probably decended [descended] from an African species, which was held sacred by the Egytians [Egyptians], who embalmed them by the thousands. Both the dog and the cat have been carefully bread [bred] by man during thousands of yrs.

The last and highest order of the mamals [mammals] is the Primates, which includes the lemurs, monkeys, and man. The apes and monkeys are divided into Old and New World forms, which differ widly [widely] from each other. The American species are characterized by flat noses, with the nostrils far apart. The Old World species, have nostrils close together and directed downward. In the latter also the tails are never prehensile, while the former have prehensile tails.

The remaining anthropoid or man like apes include the orangutan, gorilla, and chimpanzee.

The family of man contains but a single species, cosmopolitan and highly variable. This species is divided into many sub species or races.
