strong sharp spine, which is [sel] stiff
when the fish is disturbed. All catfishes are
covered with skin and have no scales.
In the carp like fishes, which include
all carp, [minnows], dace and [chruls], the
air [bladder] is joined to the ear as in the cat-
fish, but lack the long fulers and spine
[prosacess]. All are covered with seale. In
the throat are a few large teeth which are
may easily find. There are no teeth in the
mouth. In the [sucben] family the throat teeth
are like the teeth of comb and the mouth
in [filted] for sucking small objects on the river
bottom.
In the great order of [iels], the body is long
and [shine] like a snake. It is scale [les, or ] nearly so and have a distinct neckwhich is not
present in other fishes. Some are large and
fierce, some are small as earth worm.
One [bind] is freshwater.
