M. N. Lincoln

Cell.

A cell is a unite of protoplasm. The term protoplasm is a term to all living materials in a plant or oanimal body. Most cellscontain a central spot of differenciated protoplasm know as a nucleus. Sometimes there is a spot with in the nucleus know as a nucleolus.

Names

All animals and plants are known by two scientific names, the first being the generic name and the second the specific name. For example the name of the Red squirrel is Sciurus Hudsonicus. Sometimes there is a third name added, which may indicate a sub species; for example, there is a white-eared grey squirrel, known as Sciurus Carolinensis Lucotis. As a rule the sub-species name represents a geographical varriation. In this particular case Sciurus Carolinensis is a southern squirrel, while Sciurus Carolinensis Lucotis is a northern variety of the same squirrel, but having whitish ears. When two names are used we call it a binomial nomenclature, when three names are used we call it a trinomial nomenclature.

The Amoeba

The Amoeba is one of the lowest, single celled animals; it is also one of the simplest, having no mouth
